Capabilities and extensions

Availability of capabilities and extensions depends on the ArcGIS GIS Server license edition you purchased. For example, some capabilities are provided by default with your edition. Others may be available for purchase as an extension. Information about which license edition is required to use the functionality is noted below. Extensions are not available with ArcGIS GIS Server Basic.

Serve schematics datasets

Schematics services allow you to share your collection of schematic information with people inside and outside your organization. Schematics help you do the following:

• Automatically generate diagrams and manage physical and logical networks, such as social networks.
• Represent any kind of network, including electric power, traffic light, delivery route, and computer networks.

Schematics are provided in ArcGIS Server as a server object extension (SOE). This allows you to publish the schematic content you create in ArcMap and expose that content on the web in client applications.

Share 3D services and embed 3D analysis tools

Your GIS Server Advanced edition includes 3D data analysis and surface generation capabilities.

• Interact with 3D data to gain insights that aren't possible in 2D. Visualize raster, vector, and lidar data for 3D feature, terrain, subsurface, and volumetric views.
• Analyze GIS data in true 3D space with tools that perform complex surface, volumetric, and visibility analyses, including analyzing terrain, modeling subsurface and atmospheric features, and optimizing site selection.
• Create advanced tools and models from your ArcGIS 3D Analyst extension for Desktop and use your GIS Server to share those services to desktop, mobile, and web applications.

Serve geostatistical models

Your GIS Server Advanced edition can share statistically valid prediction services for GIS modeling and visualization.

• Use statistical models to create random training or testing data subsets that can help you identify data anomalies, explore your spatial data, and generate more precise results.
• Examine real-world issues including atmospheric data analysis, petroleum and mining exploration, environmental analysis, precision agriculture, and fish and wildlife studies.
• Create advanced tools and models from your ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst extension for Desktop and use your GIS Server to share those services to desktop, mobile, and web applications.

Share/embed Spatial Analyst tools and services

Your GIS Server Advanced edition comes with advanced raster data analysis and surface generation capabilities from Spatial Analyst

• Spatial Analyst provides more than 150 tools and functions that you can embed in your web applications for on-the-fly analysis, including suitability modeling, distance and direction calculations, and hydrologic modeling.
• You can create advanced tools and models your ArcGIS Spatial Analyst extension for Desktop and use your GIS Server to share those services to desktop, mobile, and web applications.

ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension

Use the ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension to share map and geoprocessing services that take advantage of almost any data format or data model.

• Combine multiple data sources and author spatial extract, transform, and load (ETL) capabilities in applications.
• Directly read and write nonstandard data formats and create geometry or attribute transformations to support complex modeling. Add support for more than 200 data formats—including CAD, OGC, XML, JSON, RSS, DBMS, and even CSV—with no coding.
• Author your maps or Spatial ETL tools using ArcGIS Data Interoperability extension for Desktop and use ArcGIS Data Interoperability 10.6 for Server to publish format support or Spatial ETL capabilities within your applications.

ArcGIS Data Reviewer extension

The ArcGIS Data Reviewer extension gives you the ability to provide data quality workflows through web and mobile client applications.

• Leverage web services to extend data quality control workflows across your entire organization.
• Reduce risks to decision making by automatically detecting data which does not meet data quality requirements.
• Improve the quality of already published web services by deploying easy-to-use tools for collecting and managing data quality feedback from customers.
• Track and report the quality of your data in new ways and across multiple reporting platforms.

ArcGIS for INSPIRE extension

ArcGIS for INSPIRE provides a powerful and modern web GIS solution to ensure INSPIRE compliance supporting data, services, and metadata.

• ArcGIS for INSPIRE helps you meet and prepare for changes to the INSPIRE directive for sharing spatial data with the European Union in a multinational, multiagency spatial data infrastructure (SDI).
• ArcGIS for INSPIRE extends ArcGIS to help you meet current requirements for delivering INSPIRE Discovery, View, and Download Services without complex data migrations.
• Includes the open source Esri Geoportal Server (available on GitHub) and add-ons to catalog and index INSPIRE metadata and to serve INSPIRE Discovery services.
• Includes an ArcGIS Desktop extension to create and maintain INSPIRE geospatial data and metadata.

ArcGIS for Maritime: Server extension

ArcGIS for Maritime: Server allows you to publish and serve Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) and other S-57 products such as Additional Military Layer (AML), Inland Electronic Navigational Charts (IENC), and encrypted ENCs (S-63) over the web.

• Access S-57 datasets anywhere for visualization and analysis, including from a web browser, mobile device, or a GIS application, such as ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, or any OGC-compliant web application.
• Zoom to specific products, or simultaneously visualize entire catalogs of ENCs, nationally or regionally.
• Interactively query or identify data to find specific features such as navigation aids or places.
• Modify the color scheme, symbolization, and safety contour values of features of standard S-52 symbology used (for a familiar look and feel).
• Combine with other geospatial information for analysis or to create elaborate interactive maps.
• Query, render, and serve S-63 encrypted ENCs over WMS services or the ArcGIS Server REST interface.

Use in conjunction with ArcGIS for Maritime: Charting for Desktop, for managing your charting data and production workflows, and ArcGIS for Maritime: Bathymetry for Desktop to manage your bathymetric data. See also What is a Maritime Chart service for more information.

ArcGIS Network Analyst extension

ArcGIS Network Analyst provides advanced network data analysis capabilities via web services.

• Deploy powerful network analysis tools, such as multipoint optimized routing, time-sensitive, turn-by-turn driving directions, service area allocation, and fastest fixed route to the closest facility.
• Provide sophisticated network modeling capabilities to more people, including analysts, professional staff, and decision makers, regardless of their GIS knowledge or skills.
• Create advanced tools and models from your desktop and use your GIS Server to share those services to desktop, mobile, and web applications.

ArcGIS Workflow Manager extension

ArcGIS Workflow Manager allows you to organize, centralize, and standardize project workflows using web services.

• Standardize all work-related information to maintain consistency across your organization.
• Create and assign workflows to appropriate resources in multiuser geodatabase environments.
• Improve user productivity and save time through automated tasks while tracking staffing, time schedules, and more.
• Create and deliver project workflows in ArcGIS Workflow Manager for Desktop and use your GIS Server to share those services to desktop, mobile, and web applications.

Esri Defense Mapping extension

Esri Defense Mapping delivers a dynamic, self-service online map production experience to anyone with the appropriate credentials inside or outside your organization.

• Standardize database-driven, defense cartographic production and high-quality layouts.
• Access real-time vector cartography.
• Create fit-for-use maps that are based on defense standards.
• Enable advanced custom print and export services.
• Use with Esri Defense Mapping for Desktop to create and streamline delivery of GIS data and map production tasks and products.

Esri Production Mapping extension

Esri Production Mapping provides consistency across operations by storing business rules, workflows, map documents, and other production information in a centralized location.

• Deliver dynamic, self-service online map production to anyone in your organization.
• Standardize database-driven, cartographic production and high-quality layouts.
• Boost efficiency with self-service mapping that allows you to build cartographic rules, templates, and workflows.
• Use with Esri Production Mapping for Desktop create and streamline delivery of GIS data and map production tasks and products.
• Use with Product on Demand (POD) (available on GitHub) to produce high-end map graphic outputs and share map products with high cartographic accuracy over the web.

Esri Roads and Highways extension

Esri Roads and Highways for Server extends the existing ArcGIS Server map service with an additional REST service capability for linear referencing.

• Publish your Roads and Highways LRS networks and registered event layers as map services.
• Translate (Locate) routes and measures to coordinates or polylines and translate coordinate locations to routes and measures.
• Validate route or measure values.
• Convert measures from one LRM to another.
• Use the linear referencing capability with Event Editor, a web application that can be configured against event data published in Roads and Highways for Server.
• Add and edit your routes using Esri Roads and Highways for Desktop and then perform multilayer, transactional event editing, with support for overlap retirement and coincident event merging using the Roadway Characteristics Editor.

In addition, you can extend the capabilities of Roads and Highways for Server with Roadway Reporter, a web application that allows you to create road segment, road mileage, and road log reports from a map-centric user experience.

ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing extension

ArcGIS Pipeline Referencing for Server extends the existing ArcGIS Server map service with an additional REST service capability for linear referencing in pipeline organizations.

• Publish your LRS networks and registered event layers as map services.
• Translate (Locate) routes and measures to coordinates or polylines and translate coordinate locations to routes and measures.
• Validate route or measure values.
• Convert measures from one LRM to another.
• Use the linear referencing capability with Event Editor, a web application that can be configured against event data published in Pipeline Referencing for Server.
